What's been cooking — September 2026
4 merged PRs across 3 repos
September was mostly about the unglamorous stuff: fixing lint configs that weren't actually linting, format gates that weren't actually gating, and build graphs that weren't actually building. A good month for anyone who enjoys discovering that CI has been quietly lying to them.
NVIDIA/IsaacCapture
Two cleanup PRs landed on the capture stack. IsaacCapture#882 introduces cmake/CompilerWarnings.cmake with an opt-in warnings-as-errors mode, carefully included after add_subdirectory(deps) so the OpenXR SDK and friends don't drag the build down with warnings nobody wants to own. Meanwhile IsaacCapture#883 finally gives ruff something to do: the pre-commit hooks had been running on stock defaults (E4/E7/E9 + F) the entire time, so this PR turns on the correctness-oriented rule groups (B, C4, PIE, PERF, PLE, PLW, LOG, G, ASYNC, RUF) and fixes everything they immediately started yelling about across 34 files.
NVIDIA/cuml
A one-line fix with a satisfying backstory: cuml#8532 makes -DCUML_ALGORITHMS=SVM actually build. SVM's kernel cache pulls in cuVS headers directly (cuvs/distance/distance.hpp, cuvs/distance/grammian.hpp), but svm_algo was missing from the list that turns on LINK_CUVS, so cuVS only got pulled in when some other algorithm (dbscan, kmeans, umap, ...) asked for it. Build SVM alone and the compiler couldn't find the headers. One line in ConfigureAlgorithms.cmake and it's wired up explicitly.
nv-tlabs/3dgrut
3dgrut#269 is this month's winner for "CI was lying to us". The format job had been checking exactly 1 Python file out of 140, because scripts/formatter.sh does a pushd "$SCRIPT_DIR" and the script had been relocated into scripts/ back in 2675ca0 — so every black ., isort . and find . was happily operating on the scripts directory alone. This PR points the script back at the repo root (coverage: 1 file to 140), applies the formatting that had piled up behind the bug, and closes a second hole: the clang-format branch silently passed when the binary was missing, and CI never installed it, so C++/CUDA formatting had never been checked at all. Ruff goes on top, with the safe fixes applied and the remaining violations triaged into an annotated, priority-ordered ignore list.
Three repos, three variations on "the tooling we thought we had, we did not have". See you in October.
